Latin and Greek Freelance Translation Services
About:
About:
I am a Senior Lecturer teaching all levels of Latin and Ancient Greek at Purdue University. Additionally, I recently completed paleography coursework at the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies in Toronto and Rome. My paleography training has enabled me to do transcription work with rare texts in addition to translations. I have been doing freelance translation work on and off for decades, but my work has been more consistent since 2015. My jobs have taken me beyond the standard corpus of classical Greek and Roman literature, including work on the following: the 13th century Byzantine Greek scholion on Homer by Eustathius, a 17th century notebook on weaving patterns written by German mathematician and philosopher Joachim Jungius, the17th century mathematical writings of Leibniz, an account by 16th century historian Giovanni Antonio Viperano about a christian naval victory, documents regarding a scandal among the Dominican friars in Bern, Switzerland in 1511, a 19th century Latin text on fish species for a biology researcher in Malaysia, and a 14th century Latin treaty roll regarding the sea capture of a brother and sister during the reign of Edward I. I have also been consulted for branding jobs including names for a company renting vacation retreats and for an art installation. I work on Greek and Latin composition tasks as well: putting the mission statement for a philosophical society into Latin and Greek and putting lyrics into Latin for a requiem written by an Australian composer. My favorite thing about freelancing is the adventure of seeing where the next job will take me!
